MISSION U, DONE TWO WAYS

Mission U was done virtual the last two Saturdays in June. Several of our Unit attended this way.

Since the first Saturday was the 19th of June there was recognition of Juneteenth.

Both studies were done, Bearing Witness in the Kin-dom and Pushout.

In each study there were break out groups.

There was even some homework assigned and shared the following Saturday.

You  only had to attend the 4 hours of the studies each Saturday. But there was a lot of good podcast and information shared during the other hours. There were talks from missionaries, about the work at the Wesley Center in the Keys, and Pastor Kris shared about the prison ministry at Lowell.

Then on July 15th to the 17th Mission U was held  at the Warren Willis Convention Center  (formerly known as the Life Enrichment Center). This group of women from our unit attended the in person Mission U. It is great to be together and to learn and fellowship with other woman from around Florida.

Judith teaching the class for Bearing Witness in the Kin-dom.
The prayer table in the classroom.
This was a special year for it's the 75 anniversary for Mission studies in Florida.
It was a time to celebrate.

A beautiful quilt made from some of Mission U t-shirts through out the years.
A beautiful ending to a special weekend.

RE ACT

The youth at the church had ReAct from June 7 to the 11th.  They lived at the church for the week going out during the day to serve in the community. They painted and did lawn maintence for those in the community that were not able to. UMW provided most of the evening meals. Lunch Bunch helped serve the meal on Monday night. Circle of Grace and Daughter of Lydia made and served the meal on Wednesday night. Jodi and Kathy fixed the garlic toast.

Ann had the meal will planned out, organized and ready to serve on time. Thanks to Noelene and her husband's help.  Lasagna, salad and garlic bread was on the menu. Lots of cookies and cupcakes were sent for dessert.

Thanks to the ladies that did the laundry of the youth's dirty clothes, and those who opened their homes to them for showers after hot days of work. The mission field is in our own community and many showed God's love to others this week.

SONSHINE BASKETS

On June 12 a group of volunteers with Harbour Hope met at the Grove Church in  Winter Garden.

Between the Lunch Bunch and Circle of Grace six bags full of items were donated to help fill the SONshine baskets. This is a project to spread  some joy and show God's love to women who have been rescued from sex trafficking and are being mentored by Harbour Hope.

There was lot of jewelry, makeup, and personal care items.

Baskets were filled and wrapped.

A nice note with a little handwritten message was tied on the finished basket. 26 baskets were assembled.
Some of the volunteer worker's children helped to make baskets for children.

They wrote a message on the card for the baskets they made.

If a woman who was receiving a baskets had children they also received a basket just for their child. 14 children's baskets were made.  It was a beautiful way of sharing Jesus with these women. Thanks to all that contributed.

THANK YOU, DAYS FOR GIRLS, CLERMONT

At the April Days for Girls meeting all the pieces for the kits had been sown and kits were ready to be assembled.  About 80 kits were made.

Evelyn Rose stopped by and told the team that she and her husband still call St. Vincent home and were helping with the Relief Effort in any way they could. St. Vincent has experienced a continuing series of huge eruptions of its volcano La Soufriere since April 9th. Over 15,000 people have been relocated to shelters in other parts of the Island. There is no timeline as to how long this will go on.  A significant number of those evacuated are women and girls . The island is blanketed in ashfall  which as well as hampering visibility, destroying buildings and agriculture, causes immediate and long-term breathing problems.  The shelters are mainly in schools and churches, some of which are Methodist. Evelyn felt the Days for Girls kits would be extremely helpful and asked if some could be donated.  All the kits that were packed that day were given to her. She took them to the donation site and explained to the coordinator about the kits. The kits will be distributed among the centers housing teenage girls and young ladies who have been hit hardest by the displacement. One center House of Hope houses teenage moms. Evelyn thanks the Days for Girls, Clermont chapter for answering her prayer to help those in volcano ravaged St. Vencent and the Grenadines.
